Autumn's been very punctual this year. Stepping out to get my paper on Sunday the air already felt crisper and cooler and it was barely 11 hours into September. I got the same feeling when I left work tonight. It was just cool enough to make me appreciate my new ghansi when I put it on, but not so much that I couldn't have gone without.

I've always loved this part of the year: the sharpness and the shift in the air, the way even the light seems different, and the sense of change this brings. I know it's as much to do with 5 years of going up to university after the long vac (and 12 years of school before that) as anything else, so I'm fully aware that it's anticipation for something which isn't coming. Maybe I shouldn't encourage it (subconscious disappointment worries, anyone?) but for now I'm just enjoying feeling a little bit excited about life after what's turned out to be a rather sludgy summer.

Saying that, things *are* starting to change, if only a little. Work's getting better and the new build engineer starting on Monday should finally free me to program full time again, something I haven't done for nine months. Strange Fruit is gradually cranking itself back into gear again after the August break and it looks like the next few months might be our biggest yet. Finally, I hit 27 in a months time. Not a traditional milestone, I know, but the 3*9 thing still seems significant somehow.
