Beaurocracy vs Bureaucracy

It seems like this mis-spelling of 'bureaucracy' is rapidly becoming the internet standard. Even otherwise excellent spellers seem to use it when writing online; I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why. Yes, it is a bit of a funny looking word but the mis-spelled version looks even odder. Plus it's if anything even less phonetic than the old form. It leaves me wondering if the new form was accidentally entered into some arpanet era spellchecker by mistake and has mysteriously persisted ever since.
