Beaurocracy vs Bureaucracy
Oct. 12th, 2005 11:36 amIt seems like this mis-spelling of 'bureaucracy' is rapidly becoming the internet standard. Even otherwise excellent spellers seem to use it when writing online; I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why. Yes, it is a bit of a funny looking word but the mis-spelled version looks even odder. Plus it's if anything even less phonetic than the old form. It leaves me wondering if the new form was accidentally entered into some arpanet era spellchecker by mistake and has mysteriously persisted ever since.
The Sex Lives Of The NME Editors
Aug. 23rd, 2005 02:32 pmFrom The Guardian's OTT Goldfrapp coverage, via
freakytigger, something I wish I'd never read:
As far as mood music goes, though, [Conor] McNicholas [NME editor] has his own favourite. "I think Nirvana's Nevermind is the greatest shagging album because it's got loads of quiet/loud moments and pent-up feelings," he said. "But you have to be careful you don't sing along - especially that line 'Love myself better than you'."
I know some of you have seen this already, but I feel the need to share the pain as widely as possible. As I commented in reply to
alexmacpherson's post, the thought of Conor McNicholas gurning in ecstasy to the quiet/loud while unleashing his 'pent-up feelings' has totally put me off my camembert.

Last night we finally received confirmation that Liz died in the Piccadilly line bomb blast on the 7th of July. There is an ILX thread here for condolences, memories and support. Freaky Trigger is closed as a mark of respect.
My thoughts are with Rob, her family and her close friends.

Dropping science
Jul. 4th, 2005 10:13 amNo content, but two things that I thought needed a bit of propagation.
Marcello makes me wish I'd paid attention to Live8, and especially to Pink Floyd.
Nitsuh gets David Foster Wallace exactly right. (Warning: misleading [and unpleasant] title)

I have just been informed that top ranking late 80s indie band THE WOLFHOUNDS are reforming for a one off gig. Grebt news for all our readers, obv. BUT this presents me with a dilemma: the aforementioned gig is on the 22nd of June ie the Wednesday of Glastonbury. I have already bought my coach ticket for that morning, and I can't decide whether to change it to Thursday or not. So, dear readers, I present you with a poll:

Rex The Dog can have my puppies
Apr. 21st, 2005 03:42 pmIf you have any interest in the young person's dancing music whatsoever, I strongly urge you to go and download Rex The Dog's minimix right now. Mel and Kim vs DJ Koze = brand-new best thing evah!
Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired
Apr. 4th, 2005 10:26 pmIt's the title of the auto-ipod tape whose tracklisting I'm about to post, but it's also an accurate description of my current state. Through a combination of cancelled trains and my own sleep-deprived idiocy it took me two hours to get home tonight. I had a boring, tiring day and the commute just about finished me off. I can't keep doing this, it's making me ill.
Anyhow, EJ got the tape on Saturday, so here's the( tracklisting )
This was the first tape to include vinyl, and completely contrary to my predictions, it's probably the worst one so far. It's certainly the first to contain stuff I think really, truly stinks. The Sonic Youth track in particular is terrible, possibly the worst thing they've ever done, and the opening Cranes track is hardly any better. It nearly redeems itself on the second side, but then the otherwise ace run from Daft Punk to Kelis is marred by the mediocre Mogwai track.

Just got back from the Blood Brothers gig. It was good, but weird; I have never seen that many drunk 15 year old girls at a hardcore show before. I might write a bit more about it tomorrow, but not now, cos I am mighty tired and reviewing crazed-post-hardcore-camp-pop bands isn't either of the main reasons for this post.
Main reason the first: to tell you all to come to Freaky Trigger's new! improved! clubnight! Poptimism! tomorrow night! All number ones, all night! Guaranteed 100% guilt free! Free badges for the first 50 punters! High likelihood of seeing me dance like a crazed gibbon! Vague possibility of there being real actual ale! ( Flyer under cut! ) Come! It's going to be GRATE!
Main reason the second: I finished another human ipod tape last week and so, like I promised, I'm offering it up at an odd time of day. It's called Sick And Tired Of Feeling Sick And Tired and, as usual, first one to ask in the comments gets it.

It came from outer space
Mar. 8th, 2005 02:49 pmQuatermass to be remade!
It's going to be shown live as well, which should be interesting. I mean, it's obviously possible to do it live (it having been done that way in the first place) but that was with production crews and actors who were used to making live TV drama. With the lack of available modern experience, the restrictions on what they can show are likely to be tighter than ever. Still, at least this rules out the possibility of screw-up-via-massive-overproduction.
I am slightly baffled by the article's description of Quatermass as the original watercooler telly though. Surely all 1950's offices came fully equipped with rotund tea ladies who dished out cups of PG and sticky buns at regular intervals? No need for any of this modern needing something to talk about with co-workers while using the kitchen yourself nonsense.

( The Codifiers of Agfas )
Turned out much more mental-looking this time, but it actually works better as a compilation that the last one. Again, CD only, but I will be getting something that plays vinyl RSN, honest.
